As California faces a projected shortfall from $38 billion to $73 billion over three years, large corporate profits have soared, and are still near record highs. As a share of their profits, corporations pay about half what they did in state taxes a generation ago.

Please join California Director of Small Business Majority, Bianca Blomquist, UC Davis Professor of Law, Darien Shanske, and Tia Orr, Executive Director for Service Employees International Union California (SEIU) and Board of Directors of the California Budget & Policy Center at its annual Policy Insights Conference as we dive into how the corporate tax system can be made more fair for California small business owners and employees. Our session, Dream Big, begins at 10:30 am in Room A2.

We will discuss how California can generate additional revenues to help the state avoid cuts to services in the short term, and to support and strengthen services in the long run. Attendees will also learn about a potential measure on the November ballot sponsored by corporate interests that would exacerbate the challenges state and local governments already face in raising revenues to support critical public services.

This conversation will be moderated by Kayla Kitson, Senior Policy Analyst for California Budget & Policy Center.
